FAITH
I was at a soccer game with a group of people last night when my friend Marlo started asking questions. He was going to teach Sunday School today and wanted to get some ideas for his topic. The first question he asked was, "What is faith to you?" That's really a tough question, when you stop and think about it. What IS faith? I immediately pointed him to Hebrews 11:1 (look it up!), but he wanted to know what is it to me personally. I started thinking more about it last night which just led me to ask even more questions. Is faith something that comes from God or something we DO? And if it comes from God, why does it seem like my faith is on a roller coaster most of the time? One day it's up, the next it's down.
Any thoughts out there? I'm just a little curious about what others might have to say on the subject!

Great question Beffers! Faith comes from God for sure. But we're also commanded to believe, thus it's something we do. So both. He gives us the ability to have faith. So faith is believing in God's character and word. We are responsible to do that, yet dependent on Him to be able to. Do you mean by the roller coaster that we sometimes go through times of extreme confidence in God and then severe doubt? If so I think that's honest and healthy. That's the process God takes us through as we learn about Him, ourselves, sin, redemption, etc. It forces us to learn that God is sovereign and good and that we are responsible and dependent. God will give us everything we need, but as we need it. Including faith. So I join with that one fella who said to Jesus, "Lord I believe, but help me with my unbelief".
