What Are Some Benefits to Settling Down in a City?
I ran across a good insight at the Christianity Today blog. Last Sunday, we talked about Jer. 29:4-7 and how we need to be people who buy into and settle down in our city. I mentioned good reasons to do this. But church discipline wasn't one of them. Collin Hansen does, Check out his post: The Hansen Report: Where Are You From?
Any more benefits to settling down for the purpose of community, mission, and the kingdom of God in your city?

God blesses cities through the people in them. Sure you can help some from the outside coming in, but you can contribute so much more to actually live in the city. You have a voice in city government (needs/concerns taken to council, voting, etc.), you contribute to the city financially, help add to the census count to provide the city with better funding from the federal government and by maintaining your property you help to beautify the city. It also gives you more opportunities to beautify the city by helping your neighbor, picking up trash when you go for walks, etc. What better way to express love for a city than to actually live within it? Huntington is the heart of this area with other cities/towns playing very important supporting roles. If the heart is healthy, the other parts of the community benefit. If the heart is suffering, then the other parts suffer as well and the full potential of the area can not be realized. Here's to a healthy Huntington and our contributions to helping it grow! May God bless this city through his people!
*high five tim* I couldn't have said it better.
